Be My Valentine

Valentine’s Day is known as a day for couples but I have always thought of it as a great day for romance in general.  A day to romance your partner, family, friends, yourself.  A perfect day to give and take love.  I have never felt like I needed a partner to celebrate….until I met C, I preferred being single.  I had the freedom to be self-focused and do exactly what I wanted …..which usually involved wine and Marilyn Monroe movies.  To me, V-Day is a cozy night in, homemade dinner, candle light, conversation and laughter rather than gifts, fancy restaurants and chocolates.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally spoiled on Valentine’s Day, C makes me a lobster dinner, serves my favorite wine and buys my favorite flowers.  My mother makes it special by writing a poem for the family each year.  The poem is always a celebration of who we are and what she appreciates about each person.  We have been her jewels, her joys, her wild Irish roses, her very favorite Valentines.  The poems have made us laugh and cry, she has a knack for making us all feel special and seen.  She also bakes the best red velvet cake I’ve ever had….in a heart shape of  course.  It’s always abundantly clear how much I am loved, I’m a lucky girl.

So whether you’re single or a pair, here are some enchanting ways to celebrate Saint Valentine’s Day.

XOXO
