Is there anything better than a snowy Friday in December? I mean, it feels like the epitome of Christmas. I love to see kids walking down the street, playing in the snow, neighbors shoveling their driveways, seeing Christmas lights shining through the snow on front bushes and seeing Christmas trees glowing through windows. A snowy, December Friday is the perfect excuse to light a fire, put on a Christmas movie and wrap up in a cozy blanket.
The last two Festive Friday drinks have been citrusy and on the light side, so this week we’re going full-on decadent. This drink is inspired by the hot chocolate scene on The Polar Express (don’t you always want hot chocolate when you watch it?) and the hot chocolate in the movie Chocolat. Obviously, we make an adult version but you can make it 100% kid friendly by omitting the Frangelico.
I have no doubt this will be our go-to drink each time it snows this year. And maybe even when it doesn’t. 😉
Nutty or Nice Hot Chocolate
Ingredients (serves 2)
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup cream (we used heavy cream but you can use half & half if you prefer
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips (we used Ghiradelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Chips)*
- 4 ounces Frangelico
Directions
- Add everything (except the Frangelico) to a medium saucepan
- Heat on low until chocolate is melted and bubbles form around the edges of the saucepan (stir occassionally)
- Add 2 ounces of Frangelico to each mug
- Split the contents of the saucepan between each mug (you’ll have some extra)
- We topped ours with homemade whipped cream, find the recipe here: Festive Fridays: Brandy Corretto – Enchanted Conservatory
Here’s to a cozy winter!
XOXO
