When I think of tequila two thoughts immediately come to mind (1)margaritas- yummm, quickly followed by (2)lemon and salt- yuck- (if you know you know). But there are so many other scrumptious ways to imbibe tequila. In todays post (and in honor of Cinco de Mayo tomorrow!) we’re sharing our favorite tequila based drinks.
If you’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo, delight your family and friends with some of these options. A delightful detour from the classic margarita.
Autumn Margarita
First up, our Autumn Margarita, to be enjoyed any time of year (not just autumn ;)). We love this one because it adds some delicious depth to the margarita. Find the recipe here.
Amalfi Coastal
This next recipe is a slightly altered version of the Amalfi Coastal cocktail from The Waldorf Astoria Bar Book (buy it here). The original calls for gin but I’m not a fan of gin so I make it with tequila.
- 1.5 ounces tequila
- 1 ounce limoncello
- 1.5 ounces blood orange juice (fresh if possible)
Add all ingredients to a shaker, add ice, shake and pour into a lowball glass.
Paloma
Or, indulge in a classic Paloma:
- 2 ounces tequila
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
- 3/4 ounce simple syrup
- Pinch of sea salt
- 2 ounces grapefruit club soda (or plain club soda)
You can omit the sugar for a refreshing, non sweetened version.
Add all ingredients (except soda water) to a highball or Collins glass, add ice, top with soda water, stir gently to mix. Garnish with grapefruit wedge.
Rose Margarita
My last suggestion is a slightly altered version of the Rose Margarita from the Hartford Flavor Company (hartfordflavor.com), the original calls for sour mix, which I omit.
- 1.25 ounces Wild Moon Rose
- 1.5 ounces tequila
- 1/2 ounce lime juice
- 2 shakes orange bitters
Add all ingredients to a shaker, add ice, shake, pour into lowball glass. Garnish with rose petals or lime wedge.
Perfect options for Cinco de Mayo, Taco Tuesday or a warm summer day by the pool.
Cheers you delicious humans.
XOXO
